What are the differences between Engineered Wood vs. Solid Wood?
We have mostly engineered wood flooring in our showroom are rarely sell solid wood… Why? Engineered wood, with tits many cross grain layers, makes it more stable in the extreme weaher changes here in WI. From freezing temps in the winter to a humid summer day, the engineered products withstand those temperature changes better than solid wood. Solid wood is typically 3/4″ thick . Engineered wood comes in a variety of thicknesses ranging from approximately 3/8″ to 5/8″ which is typically a better option when doing a remodel project and working with the other existing floors in the home.
What do you recommend to clean my hardwood floors?
Hardwood flooring is an investment and maintaining the beauty/integrity of the floor is critical to preserving the life of the floor. When properly maintained, hardwood floors will not need replacing. Please see our dedicated section here.
What is the difference between Engineered Wood and Luxury Vinyl Plank?
Luxury vinyl plank and engineered wood can give your home a warm inviting feel. However, they are VERY different products. Wood flooring adds value to your home every time! Luxury vinyl is still… vinyl. With the rising costs of vinyl products, there are actually many beautiful options of engineered wood that are in the same price range as vinyl. In addition to adding value to your home, nothing is better than the look of real wood because each plank is unique offering character that luxury vinyl just cannot replicate.
I am seeking a more modern look and need to work around my existing trim/cabinets with a honey oak trim. What should I consider?
Contrasting the honey oak with a lighter floor is a popular choice and offers beautiful results. The most important thing to focus on when changing the look in this space is to not match the trim or cabinets. Finding a floor color that incorporates beiges and grays (greige) to modernize the home but still coordinate with the existing trim /cabinets. Wood has color variation from plank to plank so finding a floor that has just a hint of the honey tone but overall contrasts the trim will unify the space.
